The beat goes on...
When we think of the Song of Songs, we often can't get past images of women with necks as long as towers, and teeth like straying, furry sheep.
But the song of songs speaks far more deeply to us than we might imagine.
There is a longing for love and acceptance deep within our hearts that is often almost impossible to satisfy.
Were does this desire come from, and how we can we find the love and acceptance that we crave?
9am Sermon details
Dan Neville will be speaking to us on Sunday morning - the PM crowd has really come to love Dan's messages, and this Sunday the AM crowd will also get to enjoy one for a change - thanks Dan for stepping up!
5pm Sermon details
Where do you turn when life weighs you down? What underpins your hope that you'll endure? Peter understood these questions when he wrote to exiled Christians buckling under persecution and suffering. His response may surprise, though. Not content to offer pithy 'how to' advice, he draws their attention [and ours as well] away from false hopes to focus instead upon the one who gives us living hope.
Preacher: Rod McWilliams

Revelation 3:7-13
The church in Philadelphia (in ancient Asia Minor, today's Turkey) is one of the two churches (two out of seven!) in the Book of Revelation which do not receive criticism from the Lord.
It's an insignificant little church: few resources, little finances, no programs, not many movers and shakers in this church.
But in the eyes of the Lord they were a mega-church! They have kept the Lord's Word, they have not denied His Name, and they practiced godly endurance.
Christ - as the only One who opens (and closes!) the Kingdom of heaven - has set before this insignificant group of Christians and open door! That is: an open door into the Kingdom, and an open door into the world!
Preacher: Keith Warren

Prayer
- We continue to seek a buyer for the 5.5 acre property on Boundary Rd, and as people of faith we're asking God to bring this about.
- Next week, Kids Games is underway at RCRC. Please uphold Lisa and the entire team during this busy week and also while they prepare. It is a sweet sacrifice when people give holidays and recreational leave to work in ministry!
- Further, Lisa Keegan has decided to conclude her time as RCRC children's worker. We're very thankful for all that Lisa has been able to achieve, and we seek they Lord's blessing on her expanding work with Education Queensland. Lisa will conclude her appointment at the close of Kids Games. Please also pray that a suitable replacement can be found to continue the development of Kid's Ministry at RCRC
- Baby Kiana (Kiki) continues to recover after her fall last week. Please remember parents Duncan & Niah, asking for peace, strength, and the warmth of the grace of God
- This coming weekend will be a very special time for Phil & Bev Bird and also Brian & Joan Jellyman: Their children, Joel Bird and Elizabeth Jellyman will marry on Saturday. So we pray for rich celebrations of God's grace and goodness, and for his rich blessing on the life of Joel and Elizabeth as they commence their married life together
- We have had 'utegate' which then become 'email-gate', but in Iran there is unrest, rioting, democracy protests and death. Our political system may have its flaws, but our nation is a place of peace. We need to keep perspective in this. Please uphold peoples and nations in the world who do not have stable or just government. The tragedy is that there are so many nations in this category. Please also pray for people in our own country who have seemingly intractable problems and who seem to be devoid of hope. Pray that Christs freedom will ring, and that he will use us to bring it...

5pm Sermon details
Once we know how great God is and how small we are, we can ask the question, "So how should I live?" If the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and we gain a true perspective by discovering our ONLY significance is found in Jesus, then how do we live in response to that? Simple: obedience. We plan to do his plan and then we implement it. We hear the words of Jesus and we put them into practice. That is what the wise man does. We serve God, we serve one another, we serve the gospel! We store up treasures in heaven, not meaningless junk on earth. And we live out the new life given to us by our Redeemer. Read Matthew 5-7.

Meltdown: Can we fix it? Are we kidding ourselves to think that we can actually change anything about the economic situation? What difference can we make, really? Well, you may be surprised at how God might work through his people to make his Kingdom Come! Read ahead at 1 Kings 19:1-18

Prayer Update
Update on Kiana
I received the following message from Kiana's parents (Niah & Duncan) late this afternoon:
Kiki has no more bleeding today and no fluid buildup so far. Still blood & bruising on brain and in quite bit of pain but she is doing well under circumstances. No surgery unless she deteriorates over next week. Thank you all for your heartfelt messages of love, support and prayers to date, beautiful Kiki has needed it and still does. Niah & Duncan.
When I chatted with Duncan at the Mater this afternoon, he said that she was soon to be moved to the general ward, so while not out of the woods, it was a good sign that she had stabilised.
So please continue to pray for this little girl, asking that the Lord in his grace bring her to full restoration.
And something else for prayer
Last year we met John & Gillian McCartney, on furlough here from their mission in Lesotho. Remember how they brought two little adopted children with them? Their little daughter, Lexie, has an auto immune condition. John & Gillian, back in Lesotho, write:
Since October 2008 she has been treated through a Hospital in Bloemfontein, South Africa and is on fairly heavy medication. The way this medicine works is to suppress her immune system but eventually she should go into remission and she will be able to stop taking all these drugs.
About a week ago she caught a virus and normally a healthy 7 year old would recover from this in 7-10 days. However in Lexie's case, because her immune system has been suppressed, she does not have a lot in her to fight the virus and is really suffering.
As I write this it's 11pm at night and we think Lexie might be experiencing a life threatening condition. We cannot take her through to the hospital in Bloemfontein until tomorrow morning as the all the border gates except for Maseru Bridge close at night. It would be a 5 hour trip if we had to go that way. Please pray for us all tonight as we are really in the Lords hands. We will update everyone sometime over the next couple of days.
And finally...
What a privilege it was to meet for breakfast at RCRC this morning. To see how the Lord has blessed us in the last year, to hear how he's drawing people to himself through missional community outreach, to be blessed by the hospitality of Dwayne & Pauline's small group - it was just brilliant!
I count it a distinct honour to be part of such a community. My challenge to the people gathered this morning was to seek God's guidance on becoming an expression of hope in Redlands. Let's genuinely and consistently ask him to direct our plans, our future, and our own personal levels of commitment so that Jesus might be made known in Redlands.
Shalom - and see you in the morning...
5pm Sermon details
When our focus is properly fixed on God, on fearing him, we can begin to gain a true perspective of ourselves. Once we know who God is - our Creator and Redeemer - we can figure out who we are. And James tells us that we are a mist. A mist that appears for a short time and then vanishes. Compared to our Eternal, Almighty God, we are nothing. And we are definitely not the centre of the universe. When we realise that we gain wisdom - a true perspective. And with that knowledge God's love for us is even more amazing. And the plans for our lives become more meaningful than ever! Have a read of Psalm 90.

With so much uncertainty about the general economic situation, as well as our own personal financial resilience, it's not hard to see that 'market confidence' has taken a huge hit. The big question is: will we make it? How do you maintain faith in an economic crisis? What is our 'Faith Stimulus Package', and is it realistic? You can read ahead at 1 Kings 17

Everyone knows we're in the middle of a global financial crisis, but no one seems to know how long it will last, or what the next horror story will be. This short series of messages will be less about financial and market analysis (which is good, because they are coming from Dave...), and more about these two questions: What is God saying to us in a time like this? (and) Are we listening? We read about numerous meltdowns in the Bible, and on Sunday morning we'll be looking at the one mentioned in 1 Kings 16:29-34.
Pastor: Dave Groenenboom
5pm Sermon details
Life is meaningless. The things we do are useless - a waste of time. Work, education, travel. Friends, fun, money. None of these things will prevent you from dying and none can be taken with you when you go. All of it - a waste of time. So what's the point of living? It's simple: To fear God and keep his commandments (Ecclesiates 12:13). This is the whole point of living. Fear God. What does it mean to fear God? Revere him. Honour him. Worship him. Glorify him. And know him through the love he showed us on the cross. Because all of that you can take with you from this life to the next.
To kick off our series on wisdom try reading through the book of Ecclesiastes.
Pastor: Dan Kroon

The Back Page... All things sport
RCRC has a passion for the community. A passion that desires people to connect with others in our Church as well as providing opportunities for friends and neighbours to meet with God by sharing an interest with God's family. A number of years ago some members of our Church set out to set up some sporting teams to compete in local competitions. The intention was to have a mixture of people from RCRC and some that aren't as a real context for mission. Over the years we have seen RCRC teams involved with volleyball, beach volleyball, cricket, golf, soccer etc. This ministry is extremely successful and still continues today, so let's have a look at some results and upcoming events:

The last chapter of Jonah is a strange addition to the rest of the story. Just when we think all is going to end well, we get chapter 4. But there is always more to learn - that is the point. And this week we learn even more about the greatness of God and the love of God. We learn more about how to live in humility. We learn more about God being in control. And we learn more about God's heart for people. Read Jonah 4.
Pastor: Dan Kroon

The One thing that really matters - Paul closes his letter to the Galatian Christians with a crisp and succinct personal note. As he summarises his main point in the letter, he opens our eyes to one of the most wonderful realities: the very thing Jesus' followers are freed to do and to be.
