PRAYER REQUEST
Brian Jellyman's brother Errol passed away in New Zealand on Saturday 24th April (his Mother's 80 Birthday was the same day), so Brian had arrived that morning and was able see Errol. Thanks to God for this timing. The funeral was held Wednesday 28th April.
Please uphold Brian and Joan in prayer. They return to Australia on Sunday but have also received the the news, while in NZ, that Joan's Mum, Margaret has breast cancer.
Please pray for Margaret, and for Joan and Brian while they are away, that they will feel upheld by the prayers of this church family. Pray for the whole family as they struggle with grief, loss and ill-health.
Fancy yourself a Masterchef?
On Friday 21st May, Ormiston Chaplaincy is having a mega muffin sale. Volunteers from RCRC and the school bake each week as an ongoing fundraiser for Chaplaincy. But on Friday 21st May we want to sell 200 muffins in one day as part of Scripture Union’s “Chappy Week” Celebrations. So Melody is looking for a couple of extra bakers for this week: all you need to do is bake a batch or two of muffins (recipe provided) on Thursday for Melody to pick up! If you can help, please contact Melody on 0431 144 126 or at melodyg@su-chaplain.com. Thanks for your support!
Board Games & Beanbags
Ormiston Chaplaincy is expanding (praise God!) and Chappy Mello is after some donations for the new “Chappy Chillout Zone”, a lunchtime drop-in room for students. If you have old board games, beanbags, cushions, kids’ DVDs (G-rated), games consoles or art supplies, we would love to take them off your hands! You can bring your donations to church on Sundays or contact Melody (0431 144 126 melodyg@su-chaplain.com) to arrange a pickup. Thank you for your support!

MEN OF THE CHURCH - GET BAKING
In order to celebrate the women in our lives, we are having a special Mother's Day morning tea, after the 9am service this Sunday. It's a chance for men to put their baking skills to the test, and prove that kitchen work isn't really that hard, and create something memorable.
Please bring something along to share this Sunday.
(An alternative to baking is to buy something nice from Michelle's, remove it from the box, and put it on your own plate from home. If you make a mess in the kitchen with random cooking items, it might even fool your wife)
5pm Sunday
"Some of the most deadly diseases we will ever face often go undetected for years. Some of the biggest threats to our security lurk unseen and unknown. What if the greatest dangers to your spiritual life were equally as hidden and out of the way? Would you want to know what they were and more importantly how to be rid of them? Of course you would. This Sunday evening we are going to take a look at the one thing all of scripture declares is the most common and relentless challenge to your relationship with Jesus."
Reading:1 John 5:13-21
Preacher: Rod McWilliams
9am Sunday
What is it that we most deeply desire? There are plenty of good answers to that question, answers to do with family, and peace and health and prosperity. But beneath all of these desires, is a desire for God and its only when we fix those desires on him, that we find the peace, comfort and assurance we so desperately seek. So on this Mother's Day, when we remember all that our Mums are and have been for us, we will see that ultimately our security and life, comes from God. Read ahead in Psalm 63
Preacher: Clinton Berends
Thank you
The Nugent family including Marg's Mum, Gwenda, would like to express our deepest thanks for the way in which we have been supported and upheld through the diffficult last couple of weeks before and after our dear Dad and Grandpa passed away. Just as he was such a special member of our immediate family, we felt so loved, cared for and supported by our brothers and sisters in our church family. You made a difficult time one that was full of blessing. Our particular thanks go to Dave who walked the path so closely with us, and to Wendy and the girls who coordinated the funeral day for us but also to all who brought food, meals, drove, spoke words of encouragement... your love will always be cherished. We would also like to say a special thank you for being such beautiful hosts, opening up our church and working together with my Mum's church. So many people told us it was an inspiration to them to see the community of God work in this way.

In your prayers...
We continue to remember the Nugent and Condie families as they gather to bury John Condie tomorrow. The funeral service will be held at Redlands CRC, and will commence at 2:30pm. What a comfort that Jesus is our resurrection and life!
What an encouragement...
It has been to see the way the church family has embraced and supported those who are grieving. This is just the time when people need a hand, and it's been great to see that coming together so wonderfully! Thanks for being such a wonderful church family! DG
Sunday's services
9AM: Hope for Hard Times. Too often, life is tough. We wonder how we're going to cope, and how our faith will survive (or whether it will) in years to come. We think of our kids, and wonder how they will ever be followers of Jesus in a hostile world. This is not a challenge felt by this generation alone. The people of Peter's time lived with the threat of suffering and persecution on a daily basis. Peter's letter (1 Peter) reveals wonderful comfort and powerful hope for us. Read ahead 1 Peter 1.
This is the first of a new series in AM services called "Following Jesus in a Hostile World"
Dave Groenenboom
5PM: Worthless Religion? Last Sunday night we saw the trouble we are in, as a world that has rejected God and under his judgment. We desperately need something to change. So what about ‘religion?' Is it possible that we work off this debt and get ourselves back to God with the things that we do? That's the question we will be wrestling with this Sunday as we keep moving towards our question "Why Jesus?" Read ahead in Romans 2:17-3:20

Can you help with the funeral
Hi Church

That should have read: "Prayer Request"
...but you knew that already. And no, it was not the only typo in the post.
I am smiling about it - hopefully you are too.

Payer Request: The Nugent Family
Margaret Nugent's father, John Condie, went to be with the Lord late this morning. This is always a tough time, but the family also express much relief that John's suffering is over. Please keep them in prayer as they work through their grief, and prepare for the funeral. In paricular we remember Margaret's mother, Mrs Gwenda Condie, and Margaret's brothers, Bill and Richard, and their families.
The funeral will be held at Redlands CRC, and lead by Rev Nicholas Whereat from St James' Anglican church in Thorneside (Mr & Mrs Condie attended). Margaret's brother, Rev Dr Richard Condie will be opening the Word with us. It's great that such a sense of unity and hope flow from the good news of Jesus. Feel free to come and suppport the family at the funeral. The service will commence at 2:30pm on Friday afternoon.
Thanks be to God, he gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. (1 Cor 15.57)
Please email me if you have any questions
Following Jesus in a Hostile World
Next Sunday we start a new AM teaching series, working through 1 Peter, called 'Following Jesus in a Hostile World'. Peter wrote his first letter to encourage Christians who were doing it tough, or having tough done to them. They were under increasing pressure to abandon their faith. The challenges were coming from culture, organised persecution, and various other quarters.
How would they cope?
How could their faith survive?
Would the church withstand the onslaught?
We today are as concerned about our struggles as Jesus' followers were then. We feel concern for the church and we worry about the world our kids will inherit. Peter's words are as timely for our day as for then.
Prepare:
- Start reading through 1 Peter. Try to do this once a week for the duration of the series
- Pray that God will open our eyes to the Gospel's call and comfort
Coming Sunday: we're looking at 1 Peter 1:1-12, and May 16 we'll be continuing with the series (May 09 is Mothers Day).
Small groups: study questions can be supplied for your group. Email me if you're interested.
Sunday and Prayer Request
Sunday AM
This Sunday morning we will have a special Anzac Day theme. People often talk about those who have died in battle as having made the ultimate sacrifice. We should think about that. And what are we to think about engaging in warfare anyway? Through the ages God's people have struggled with such questions. Sunday we're planning to learn more of what God's word says. This service will be a great opportunity to invite people who have questions like these.
Preacher: Dave Groenenboom
Prayer Request
These last few days, Margaret Nugent's father, John Condie, has been gravely ill. John has been a resident at Nandeebie for some time, and has struggled with ill health over recent years. Please uphold Margaret, Cameron, Simon, Mark and Jenny. Please also pray for Margaret's mother, Gwenda. These are never easy times, but God's Spirit uses the support and prayers of his people as a means to remind us of his grace and faithfulness.
Why Jesus? PM Series
This Sunday at 5PM we are starting a new, 4 part series, entitled "Why Jesus?" This series will follow Romans 1-5, and look at why we, and our world, so desperately need a savior, and how God has graciously and abundantly answered that need in his Son Jesus Christ. An absolute must for having our faith firmly grounded in the gospel, and for shaping our hearts and attitudes to reach the lost around about us.
This series will be followed up by "Why Church?" starting later in May.

Sunday 5pm
If someone came up to you and asked you "Why Jesus?" how would you respond? Where would we start, and how would we end? As followers of Jesus we want two things: Firstly, to be absolutely certain of the things we profess, to make sure that our lives are building on the right foundation. And secondly, we want to be able to share this good news with others. And so this Sunday, 5PM, we start a short 4 part series called "Why Jesus?" (soon to be followed by "Why Church?") focusing on why Jesus is so important to our world, and our lives, and what it means to profess him as savior and Lord. This series will follow Romans 1-5 and this Sunday we start with Romans 1-2, looking at the mess this world, and our lives, is in, and why we so desperately need God to do something about it
Preacher: Clinton Berends
Bible Reading: Romans 1:18-25, Romans 2:1-6
Can you help with the funeral
Hi Church
For those interested in contributing to the afternoon tea at the thanksgiving service for Diny Kapinga this Wednesday, please leave foodstuffs either on the bench or in the fridge of the church kitchen between 9-11.30am or after 2pm. Please be mindful that MOPS will be in progress in the hall in the morning, so entry into the building near Margaret's office would be appreciated.
I would also be happy to accept offers of four people for kitchen serving and cleanup help. Please contact Tracy Sikkema on email sikkema@bigpond.net.au or mobile 0409 594 090. Many thanks.
The funeral will be at 3pm.
Funeral Details: Mrs Diny Kapinga
Hi church,
Further to my earlier note, I can now confirm that the funeral of Mrs Diny Kapinga will be held on Wednesday afternoon.
Family will gather at the graveside in Mt Cotton at 2pm.
This will be followed by a thanksgiving service here at Redlands CRC at 3pm. All are welcome to attend.
Please remember John Kapinga and his family warmly in prayer as they move through the next few days.
Grace and peace,
Mrs Diny Kapinga
Mrs Diny Kapinga passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus yesterday afternoon.
We encourage continued prayer and warm support for the Kapinga, Hemelaar and Tenni families in their time of grief.
God's word reminds us that the inheritance of life, hope and glory we have received in Jesus is guarded by the power of God Himself. What wonderfully comforting news this is when confronted with human frailty and death!
Beautiful Saviour!
ALPHA - What is stopping you?
Alpha is only 4 days away, and the good news is that there are spaces stilll available.
We have the ability to run three specific Alpha groups - Monday night, Wednesday night, and a Young Adults group on Wednesday night.
What is stopping you from coming? Even if you have been in church, or a Christian for a while, an Alpha Course can be of great encouragement and blessing.
For more infomation, or to sign up, please contact Clinton (clinton@redlandscrc.org.au, 0424 477 487) or the office.
COMMUNITY TEAM
We would like more people to join our Community Team. The aim of the ministry is to increase community, to get to know one another and to "do life together". The role of the committee is to dream dreams, to come up with ideas for events and occasions that will bring people together, and to plan them. The events themselves are run with the help of other groups and ministries, so all the work is not left to a few. The more diversity we have on the committee, the more we can serve the needs of the whole community. If this sounds like somewhere you would like to serve, then please contact Marg Nugent in the office mnugent@redlandscrc.org.au.
Mission Possible
Girls and ladies of all ages are invited to attend or next event especially for you. A night of coffee, conversation and consideration of the possibilities of ministry and mission. Come along and share some time, some laughter and some thoughts with us.
When: May 20th, 7.30pm at the church.
