Samson was a man appointed by God even before he was born, much like Jesus. He was called to be one of God's Judges, set apart for God's purposes, and empowered by God's Spirit. Why? To deliver God's people from the hands of their enemies.

Because God is the deliverer and the hero - that is the point of the story of Samson. We don't focus on the man, but on the purposes God used him for. And where Samson failed, God's appointed Son did not. Through him we also have been set apart and empowered for God's work. Read Judges 13.
