Mid Week News
This Week
Sunday AM: So David proves himself to be the 'man after God's own heart.' He is obedient, he gives honour to God, its all going well. And so we would expect God to reward him with aneasy life, a free run into kinship, happiness, wealth, wholeness, right? Guess again. Like us, David experiences immense struggle and hardship as a follower of God and a witness in the world. In fact, he spends the next major passage of his life constantly on the run, harassed, persecuted. But during that time, he learns some lessons, about God, about struggle and about how to cope with hardship. Lessons that he passes on to us, for our benefit and encouragement in the form of Psalm 34. This week we will look at this period of David's life, and reflect on the things he passes on to us through this Psalm. Read ahead.
Sunday PM: Da Vinci: Who was Jesus, really? (John 20:24-31) Now that we have seen that the New Testament text is trustworthy, and the church did not tamper with the books that make up the NT - are we any closer to seeing who Jesus really is? Will the answer comfort us or disturb us? Why is there so much opposition to the Jesus of the New Testament? And what about those claims of Jesus being married to Mary Magdalene, them having kids, the decendants of whom live today? Is there any truth anywhere, and how can we ever know? Come Sunday night and find out. Bring a few friends, and talk about it afterward. We may even run a Q & A after the service if there's enough interest.
Brisbane Kids Games
Its just 5 weeks away now… Here is just an update on where things are at for Brisbane Kid’s Games. The Team: The team for the kid’s games is as followers: Team Manager: Clinton Teaching: Tracy Sikkema Admin: Janette Hemelaar Craft: Theresa Moormann Prayer: Wendy Murphy Sport: Carlee Spiers Family: Debbie Wullschleger And there are a host of other volunteers filling a variety of roles. Please pray for the team over the next 6 weeks as there is a lot of work to be done For Kid’s And Parents: Registrations are now open for the program which runs from June 25th to July 2nd. Information and enrolments slips are in the church hall. Please fill out and return to the office, or Clinton, with money. Numbers are limited, and with flyers going out to 12000 kids in this area, we would hate for you to miss out. For Volunteers: A number of people have indicated their willingness to be involved, and we really appreciate that. There are a couple of things that you should be aware of: Firstly, there is a training day for all volunteers on Saturday 3rd June, from 9am to 3pm, at Bayside Christian Family Church, Preston Rd, Wynnum West. More details to come. Secondly, all volunteers in any capacity must have a current Blue Card. If you have not already, please see Ingeborg about getting on to this. If you have a card, please email or give the number to Janette or Clinton. We will hold a brief team meeting after the morning service on Sunday 4th June. If you have volunteered and can only make it for certain days of the week, please let Clinton know. For the whole church: We would really appreciate your support for this exciting and challenging opportunity. One thing we can all do is pray, and bring the leaders, the children, and parents before God. But also, we do require help in a few areas that we will make known in the next couple of weeks. But for now… Firstly, child care. Some volunteers have children who are too young to participate in the program. We would love to find a few people who could open up their homes (or use someone else’s home) to care for these children while parents are serving. If you could help for 1, 2 or even 5 days, we would love to hear from you. Secondly, more volunteers. We would love to have a few more people to help in the kitchen, in craft, in groups and with teaching. Please pray about this and let us know.
