In Revelation 3:1-6 we come face to face with a dead church, even though it had a marvellous reputation. But Jesus sees beyond the facade, whether it's churches or individuals.
It is so easy for us to be fooled by outward appearances, not only in others but even in ourselves! Christ uncovers our very hearts, and He calls us to repentance.
The church we look at this morning, Sardis, was impressively busy with all kinds of things, but it appears that they did not acknowledge Jesus before men. They did not allow themselves to be guided and enthused by the Spirit of Christ, the Spirit of Life!
We ought to make sure that Christ will acknowledge us before His Father in heaven!
